I don’t care if you love or hate Keith Olbermann - his special comment on Prop 8 tonight was so good.

Excellently put.

I hear in church all the time about marriage being ordained of God. But I also hear about how the glory of God is intelligence. Shouldn’t it be against the law for stupid people to get married? What’s more harmful to society - two well-dressed men getting married and settling down, or two idiots tying the knot and cranking out any number of additional idiots?

Ignorant, misinformed people.

It’s really unfortunate how misinformed some people are about this election. It’s even more unfortunate that there are still so many racists in this country who can’t see past skin color. These are some real Facebook status updates (my favorites are the people who want to move to a country that supports Obama and/or is more liberal than America):

“…don’t get too excited just yet, Liberals.  He won’t make it to the inauguration.  Hitler gave great speeches, too.”

“_______ is dumbfounded… Who wants to move to England?  We need to pray for our nation now more than ever…”

“YeP…WeRe SCREWED.  I can’t WAIT 2 GIVE AL My TaX DoLLaRS 2 LaZY PeOpLe ThAt DON’T wANT 2 WORK!!”

”_________ is “were gonnna be pooooor lil white girls when obama winss looks like we need to start stripping” - AR HAHAHAHA love u !!! i love u john!!!!! MCCAIINNNN 08’!!”

“moving to Canada.. anyone coming with?”

“Fuck.. gotta move to Australia or something.”

“_______ will now be supporting a family of five that she isn’t related to.”

“Our country is now in the hands of Al-qaeda.  You thought 9/11 was bad, you f*cks just wait.”

”____________ will never take orders from a muslim president.”

“It’ll be OK! He’s not completely black. He’s still half ours!”

“my favorites are the people who want to move to a country that supports Obama and/or is more liberal than America” <— No kidding, England and Canada both have universal healthcare systems?

Someone at work once told me something like how he didn’t like that Obama was going to raise his taxes to fund universal health care.

I try not to talk politics to people at work who I don’t know or don’t know me very well.  But this time, I just had to say something, “What are you talking about, _____?!  YOU’RE MIDDLE CLASS.  I know that you couldn’t be making that much more money than I am on our pay grade scale.  If you or your wife have found a way to make an extra $200,000 please let me know so that I can get in on that, too.”

Fox News’s Carl Cameron reveals a whole slew of Plain-being-Palin nuggets that for some reason were off-the-record until now.

The best one by far: Palin thought Africa was a country.

Although she thankfully did not get elected, I would think this is the kind of pertinent information worth having BEFORE making her vice-president of the free world.

(via.)

This is why I love her.

Wow.  Wow.

On a side note, what is Carl Cameron still doing on Fox?  I would have figured Rupert Murdoch would have fired him by now.

Synthesizing Happiness

Although Prop 8 passed, banning gay marriage and only recognizing marriage between a man and a woman in California, one of the most progressive states, I still have hope.

In 2000, Prop 22 which esentially banned gay marriage was overturned by “activist judges” earlier this year (which led to Prop 8 being on the ballot), the vote for banning gay marriage was 61% yes and 38% no.  This time around, with Prop 8, the vote for banning gay marriage was about 52% to 48%.

Obviously, the swing is coming our way. People are becoming a lot more tolerant and open-minded.  That’s a good thing.

I would supposed that next year, another gay couple will sue the state for Prop 8 being unconstitutional and the same judges would rule that is, thus allowing gay marriage again.  In that case, I hope that the next time it comes back up on the ballot, that 3% realize it’s not about education or fear, but about discrimination and love.

And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces, to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of the world, our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand.

Midnight Txts

Me:What are the numbers looking like for the props?
Shi:Too close for comfort. Prop 4 no at 52% and yes 49% Prop 8 yes at 53% and no 47% however only 33% of the votes are counted.
Me:Crap. Thanks : |
Shi:I know it is crazy. :-X i am not happy about Prop 8 All that Damn money for that yes on 8 campaign
Me:Damn crazy morons >:\
Shi:Yea i saw some guy who supported Yes on 8 who told the reporter that "They tried to make this a discrimination issue," it made me mad because it is about discrimination. They are trying to make this a prop on fear and make gay people look like they are predators it is simply ridiculous
Me:Sorry I meant Mormons
Shi:Yea they are morons too

Props

Ruben:Well?
Me:Well what?
Ruben:election results...how does it feel?
Me:Waiting for the props….
Ruben:that's going to be a long wait.
Me:Only for 8 and 4. 4 is neck and neck (or was before I came in) and 8 was 56/44 yes/no, but I was hoping that once SF county was counted it would swing the other way. 2 looks like it was going to pass and apparently, there are a lot more children-haters like you who don’t want sick kids to get healthy.
Ruben:btw, I voted yes on 3 and 1a. no apologies needed.
Me:Haha. I am surprised. But the bond amendments, except 12 looked like they weren’t going to pass anyway ~60/40. I was really bummed about 1 because I really wanted the infrastructure laid out at least. We’ll see!
Ruben:I must admit that my chat with you this morning on 1a and 3 swung my vote (especially your note that we gotta start sometime to deal with these issues; we can't wait till we have a budget surplus to work on them). My feeling is that if we are going to get into massive debt, make it worthwhile; i.e. infrastructure, education, healthcare; not destruction of those very same things in another country, through war and the like.
Me:I take back one bad thing I’ve said about and/or to you. But just one. The remaining 10,984,335,498,435 still stand.
