[excerpt from “All over the Place”]

I wanted to quote Topher because I’ve fallen in the depths of his entries:

“Unrequited love is the only real love.”

No, I’m not asking opinions on this, or even saying that I believe it. However, it is something I heard this weekend and I will share it. Take from it what you will.

“Unrequited love is the only real love.” Life is defined by the obstacles you must overcome to be successful in it, it is common knowledge that you grow as a person with the scars you learn to carry. Love is no different than life, in fact, it’s much simpler.

When you love and are loved in return, happy endings and all, where is the obstacle? Where are the scars? To just love and be loved is too simple. You don’t learn anything, you don’t conquer anything, you don’t earn anything.

If life is to be judged by your accomplishments, then love is to be judged by your pain. It must take into account that you have loved, and have been scorned, and will love again.

When you finally do have your ending, with whomever you have found as your other half, it’s not real love. It’s comfort. It’s a sacrifice. You have settled for what you could get. Hence the term, “settling” down.”

Wow, I don’t even know how to answer to that. Like, I’m standing there, pointing my finger at the screen, ready to open my mouth and say something- to offer a rebuttal to his words, because everyone needs a good opposite opinion to shine some light on the other side.

But I’m speechless. Cos although I would hate to agree with it, deep down, part of me does.
