I’ve been refraining from saying this for the last few months, but in the midst of the new “Tumblarity” meter release, which shows you how popular you are in comparison to the gazillion other Tumblrs out there, I couldn’t help but say something about it.
I’ve noticed that Tumblr has become more and more about popularity and how many followers you have. Yeah, I get the point that it feels good knowing people like what you post, etc, etc. But, I just don’t like the idea that one is concerning oneself about where they rank among everyone else. It could lead to great highs, or great disappointments.
Whatever happened to it being a simple, user-friendly blog tool? Now, it’s making its way toward this social networking popularity contest.
Ugh.
