Crossing the Kamo gawa, Kyoto, Japan | November 2010
Artist: Backstreet Boys
Album: Backstreet Boys
Song: As Long As You Love Me
In the battle of the boys bands when I was in high school, I was on the BSB side (versus N’Sync).
Uh oh, did I just age myself?
I was never really a music/cd buyer, but I did buy their Millennium album. I’m sure I could still find it somewhere.
My friend Robert and I, who were both in the same AP Spanish class together, used to sing the lyrics to this song in Spanish. Super nerdy, I know.
Anyway, I heard this on a Pandora commercial for them the other night, and even to this day, several years later, I still sing the chorus along in Spanish.
No me importa
quien eres,
de donde,
que hiciste,
con tal que me ames.
After having visited 11 different countries this year, just coming back a week ago from traveling through Asia, and for the most part, having used some form of public transportation in 9 of them to get around, I have to say that it was a little sad for me to come back to the US, as much as I appreciate living here, because I had seen so many of its flaws; one of them being public transportation—the lack of it, lack of reliability and the negative stigma it has which only perpetuates the inconveniences, lack of use, and lack of infrastructure. I thought that even San Francisco wouldn’t be as bad as I thought it would, but it still pales in comparison to the transit systems in other countries.
Song: Take Me Out
Artist: Atomic Tom
Album: The Moment
Aerish stumbled this video to me. Cool novelty aside, I really liked the song. So much so that I bought the album.
10,000 Maniacs - What’s the Matter Here
My sixth grade teacher, Miss Britting, was sort of a hippie. On Fridays, if we had a good week, she’d bring her guitar and we’d get to sit around and pick and sing songs out of a book she put together. Most were Beatles songs. For some reason, this was one of the songs we used to always sing. It’s pretty sad when you pay attention to the lyrics.
Out of the blue, I had this stuck in my head earlier this week.
Song: Mad World
Artist: Tears for Fears cover by Gary Jules
Album: Donnie Darko Soundtrack
In honor of “Jembob” who used to karaoke this.
BTW: “I liked Donnie Darko a lot better before I learned it was all meant to be taken literally. The idea that Donnie was a scizophrenic headcase imagining everything going on was a lot cooler than that he’s some scifi superhero time-traveller. Meh.” (Via)
WTF?! Up until I read that comment, I completely thought that Donnie Darko was this mindfuck of a dark depressing movie. After reading the wiki page on the director’s interpretation, I have to agree with that poster.
